Our 1st trip back to Nicaragua since leaving…
Hey everyone! Recently, as you many of you already know, we were able to journey back to Nicaragua for the 1st time in a year as a family to visit those we had left behind when we stepped out to follow the Lord in this new season of life in the U.S. Our time back in the land of volcano’s and laguna’s, gallo pinto and nacatamales was sweet, although the days were long and filled with hours spent in traffic and spraying ourselves down in mosquito repellent (this rainy season dengue fever in Nicaragua has been really bad). As you can imagine, hugging the necks of our loved ones in the church God began in Managua about 5 years ago was wonderful and seeing how our brothers and sisters in Christ have grown and matured through struggles and hardship was very encouraging to see. We were there for just a short week and a half and tried to see everyone we could which was difficult, but we did manage to have numerous encouraging conversations, for us and for them.
As you can imagine, there are always needs that we have in the church in Managua and while we acknowledge that we can’t possibly meet all of them, we do feel a strong desire to increase the assistance that we have been providing over the last few years now towards educational needs. In the church, the amount of children keeps growing and the blatantly obvious problem of the poor quality of education in the public school system in Nicaragua is something that affects all of the families. We would love to be able to provide the opportunity for each child in the church in Managua to go to a private school where the education they would receive would be much better. Private schools in Nicaragua can be accessible for as low $35/month, which would cover the monthly dues for 1 child. Nearing the end of each school year in Nicaragua (school year ends in December there), usually around October, registration for the following school year begins and in order to lock down a spot a registration fee is required. Usually the registration fee to lock in a spot at one of these private schools is at least a 2 months of the normal monthly dues. We are hoping to be able to get all the kids registered for school for next year if possible; we just don’t have the funds at the moment in the ministry account to be able to do so.
So, I would humbly ask you to consider helping us with this if you can? Each and every dollar given will go towards meeting these needs and with whatever we are given we will be looking to register as many children as possible to be placed into various private schools throughout Managua so they can truly have a better shot at developing their minds ands God-given abilities as any parent would hope their child could do. Clearly, this is a need that does require some sort of continued commitment or awareness as it would be a need we would look to fulfill each month as the kids progress through the school year next year; however, if you would like to help with a one-time donation and not have it be something you would need to remember to do monthly you can just send whatever support you are able to and let me know its to be split up and allocated over however many months it can be stretched, we will do our best to make it go as far as it can. Any extra funds given above covering registration fees and/or monthly dues will go towards purchasing uniforms, backpacks, school supplies, food provisions, etc…
I’ll keep this short as I know many of you simply do not have the time to read a long blog post and if you have even made it this far I thank you for taking the time to stop by and make yourself aware of the need. If you cannot give or are simply in a place where that is not possible, we totally understand and would ask for your prayers for God’s dear church in Nicaragua. As you all know, times are tough all over the world, in Nicaragua it is no different. Economically our brothers and sisters are doing what they can to put food on the table and provide for their families and for each other’s needs in the church. We are encouraged and it warms our hearts to see their love for each other and desire to help meet all the needs that arise, but sometimes we all need a little extra help.
While down there we were able to buy a few things to fulfill a few needs we were able to lay eyes on during our time there; such as a new stove and refrigerator for two families! That was such a blessing to see the smiles on their faces and a little disbelief as well. This was all made possible due to the giving and selflessness of a few that responded to the need and helped us make that happen. So friends, LET US NOT GROW WEARY IN DOING GOOD! (Galatians 6:9)
